Before casting on, the yarn itself has a story to tell. In this class, we’ll explore how fiber content, structure, ply, and finishing influence the fabric you create, and how to begin recognizing those differences with intention. Students will work through a guided swatching process while learning how to observe and evaluate yarn in a way that can be repeated across projects. This approach is especially helpful when substituting yarns, working with small-farm fibers, or choosing materials for garments and accessories.

This class is rooted in a slower, more thoughtful making process–one that helps students build confidence in their choices before they cast on.
