Celebrate your own unique sheep– individual or breed– by weaving and constructing a pin loom woven sheep in their image. Create an entire flock of sheep samples (now known as shamples), celebrating each unique fleece and breed with their own woven look-alike. This simple weaving technique has been used for years to create woven samples, now you can create a sample sheep to match each unique fleece! You should be able to easily construct one finished sheep in class. Take home the instructions and techniques to re-create your entire flock.

Students can also choose to come to class and simply learn or practice their pin loom weaving skills and create a lamb or sheep. No yarn or looms required.

Materials provided by instructorComplete printed instructions for weaving on a pin loom and creating a woven sheep and a woven lamb. All the yarn, stuffing, tools, 4" and 2" looms to use in class, and other supplies-- except for the optional weaver's unique yarn-- will be provided in class.
Supplies to bring and homeworkStudents can choose to bring in yarn or woven squares as noted below or simply come to the class to learn how to weave on a pin loom and create a lamb.

As an option, students can weave two 4" squares or one 4" x 6" rectangle for each sheep they plan to construct and bring an extra four yards of the same yarn with them to finish the sheep. Students should bring along their own 4" or 4" x 6" pin loom.
OR
As a second option, students may bring approximately 22 yards of yarn for their sample sheep. Students should bring along their own 4" or 4" x 6" loom if they have one or they can use a class loom to weave the squares in order to construct their sheep in class.

  • Margaret Stump

    Margaret Stump has been weaving on pin looms for over forty years. (Actually, it’s closer to fifty, going on sixty, but she would prefer not to admit it.) Margaret is the author of three books: Pin Loom Weaving, Pin Loom Weaving To Go, and Adorable Beasts: 30 Pin Loom Woven Animals & 4 Playscapes. She is a regular contributor to national fiber and craft magazines including Handwoven, Easy Weaving with Little Looms, Spin Off, and Yarn AU, with a current total of forty-three projects/articles to her name. While Margaret has explored many styles of weaving, she has always returned to pin looms, finding that their size and ease of use made them optimum building blocks for her creative efforts. She most enjoys sharing this portable form of weaving with others and introducing the idea that weavers, like knitters and spinners, can sit in a circle and create.
