During this class, students will learn every step of making socks from the toes up! This is a great beginning sock knitting course if you’ve never knit socks, but even experienced sock knitters will learn new tips and techniques along the way. We’ll be making a single sock (this is not a two-at-a-time class) using fingering-weight yarn, but the pattern gives 12 sock sizes for babies through XXL adults so you can pick the size you would like to make in class. This stockinette sock features contrast heels, toes, and cuffs; a standard wedge toe; a short-row heel; and an Icelandic bind-off. By the end of class students will have a finished sock and all the skills to cast on for a second sock right away!
Participants should bring enough fingering-weight yarn (including a second color for contrasting heels, toes, and cuffs) for the size of sock you will be making (light-colored, solid, or semi-solid colors recommended); double points or size and preferred needle type to obtain gauge (loose knitters will use a US 0 [2.0 mm]; most knitters will comfortable with a US 1; tight knitters should try a US 2); measuring tape; locking stitch markers; scissors; tapestry needle; and a notepad and pen. I will provide copies of my Basic Toe-Up Socks pattern.
