We all have them: those impulse fiber tool buys that didn’t quite work out the way you thought they would, that gorgeous yarn you just can’t come up with a project for and has been sitting in your stash for twenty years, the thirtieth hook or circular needle you’ve bought in that size before you finally found the one you were searching for in-between the couch cushions, etc.
That’s where the NCFF Boutique comes in!
Not only will you be able to purchase all of the NCFF swag at the booth in the vendor showcase, but you can get rid of things that are just taking up space that could be filled with new yarn, and you get to support a good cause (NCFF!) at the same time.
There are two ways to sell your stuff in the boutique:
- Donate the item to NCFF.
- Sell the item on commission.
Donations
NCFF keeps all proceeds from the sale of your item and uses it to put on the fair again next year.
Commissions
NCFF will keep 25% of the sales price as a commission, plus 5% for processing fees if the item was paid for by credit card or PayPal. (Cash, check, and Zelle payments do not incur the additional processing fee.) The processing fee for items on commission paid for by credit card or PayPal is figured on the full sale price. You are responsible for reporting and paying any sales tax on new items sold through the boutique. NCFF will not collect sales tax on items sold on commission (we don’t know if you’ve already paid sales tax on an item), so include it as part of your price figuring if needed.
How it works
- You fill out the form with descriptions and prices for every single item you want to sell at the boutique. (Print copies of the form will be available, but it’ll be a lot easier if you’ve filled it out ahead of time.)
- Tag all items with your seller number, your listed sales price, and a description if necessary (new or used, what it is). (Tags available when you drop off your items.)
- Bring your items and filled out form(s) to the boutique booth on Friday of the fair during vendor set up, or make other arrangements (email or call/text).
- Get your stuff accepted by one of the folks working in the booth.
- If any of your items sold, NCFF will send you payment after the fair via the method you indicated on the form.
Example
Jill FiberFan has a brand new 4″ Schacht hi-lo whorl spindle she’s never used that originally cost $31. She fills out the form, deciding she’ll sell it on commission for $20 total. She takes it to the boutique booth and gets her seller number and writes the number, the price, and the item description (if needed, e.g., what it is, new or used, etc.) on the tag. The item is accepted for sale. It sells for $20 and is paid for by credit card, so she’ll receive: $20 sale minus a $5 commission to NCFF and a $1 credit card fee = $14.
Please note: You must fill out the form and tag all of your items or NONE of them will be accepted for sale in the boutique.
A few rules
- All items must be fiber related. Some examples: fiber, yarn, fiber tools, books, etc.
- Multiple balls of the same yarn must be bagged in a clear, closable bag (ziplocs are good) and have at least one complete ball band showing what the yarn is. Bags will not be provided.
- Fiber must be bagged in a clear, closable bag (ziplocs are good) and have a description of fiber content and how it was prepared in the bag with it, readable through the side of the bag. Bags will not be provided.
- Used items must be in good working order.
- Kits may be opened, but must contain all items listed as coming in the kit.
- Nothing can smell (smoke, pets, perfumes, mold, etc.).
- The processing fee for items on commission paid for by credit card or PayPal is figured on the full sale price prior to deducting the 25% commission.
- Any items on commission unclaimed by the close of the fair become property of North Country Fiber Fair.
If your items don’t meet the guidelines, you can still put them out on the free table to find a new home.
Help out
Volunteer to cover a shift in the boutique to help sell all the cool things. If you’re selling something through the boutique, please think about signing up for at least one one-hour shift staffing the booth, we can use the help.
Questions
Email or call/text if you have any questions or suggestions. This is the second year trying this out, so there may still be a few bumps.
