Class Proposals

Planning is now underway for classes to be offered at North Country Fiber Fair 2023. We hope you are interested in teaching a class or three this year! NCFF will be held the third weekend in September, September 15, 16, and 17, at the Codington County Extension Complex in Watertown, SD.

As in previous years, we are looking for new ideas for classes in addition to ones that have worked well in the past (such as knitting, crocheting, spinning, weaving, lace making, dyeing, etc.). We define fiber arts broadly at NCFF: mending, braid and cord making, pine needle baskets, wire, basketry, needlework, quillwork, and sprang could all fit under our class umbrella, for example. Class proposals may focus on beginning or unique skills in any of the traditional fiber arts, as well as on unusual methods in a wide variety of craft forms.

For ease of scheduling, we encourage teachers to make classes either three or six hours in length.

This year, teachers will receive $10 per student per hour of class (so 1 student x 3 hour class = $30), one $50 stipend for expenses, and one ticket to the Saturday Night Social. Please be explicit in your proposal about all materials that students must have for your class. Please note that students appreciate getting handouts.

*NEW* This year NCFF will collect the material fees at registration, which will be paid to you with your remuneration for the class. You will no longer need to collect this at class time.

Teachers will be contacted after online class registration closes (a week before the fair) with the number of students registered. At that time, instructors may choose to allow registration in-person at the fair and how many more students will be allowed. Teachers will need to plan on providing materials for the maximum number of students allowed to register and will be reimbursed for the material costs of all registered students, whether or not they attend.

Class proposals can be submitted until 11:59 pm CST on May 15th.

We will let you know by June 1st if your class has been chosen for the 2023 fair. We will need one or more quality photos (.jpg or .png) of the finished class project showcasing the skills taught in the class. Note that we cannot use photos embedded in a pdf. Maximum file size for each image is 2 MB.

Let us know if you have any questions at classes@northcountryfiberfair.org. We hope that we will see you in September 2023.
